Things one must know about e-payment of service tax

Assessee who needs to pay service tax more than Rs. 1 lakh in the previous financial year needs to pay the tax using net banking facility. For payment through net banking, the Assessee need to have an account with net banking facility and the bank which you have account must be registered for providing facility of service tax payments.

Assessee need to log in to and click on e-payment option. The new screen will ask for 15 digit assessee code. You need to verify with code there and to select duty tax to be paid either central excise duty or service tax. Then you need to enter the bank name and click proceed.

The screen will take you to the verification page where you can verify the details and also can edit or change the details there. After verify the details click on the submit button.

After verification the bank page will open. Simply submit the username and password and click submit. This will redirect to the details of payment to NSDL CBEC website. Enter payment for accounting code and confirm the payment.

A printable copy of counter foil with challan number will be displayed after confirming the payment. This includes bank name with which the payment is made.

Some more points
- The counterfoil is the proof of payment and must be retained.
- For checking which bank provides facility of net banking payment facility of service tax, you can go to NSDL-CBEC website.
- The same procedure will work for payment of central excise.
