The registration from the sale tax for the dealers is turned out to be a TIN( Tax Identification Number). This Number is a 11 digit number numerically which works as Vat Number as well as CST number. So some people also called it as VAT NUMBER.
Features of the Tin number are as follows.
1- This is the unique identification number for all over India. It also can be used to search the registered dealers against TIN number.
2- TIN no. is of 11 numbers out of which first 2 characters represent the state and the remaining 9 characters depends on state registration.
3- TIN will work to identification of the dealers all over India as it is unique number like PAN(Permanent Account Number) which can be used for identification the person identity all over India.
4- All dealers which have old sales tax number/CST number have been replaced to TIN number and the dealers which are applying for the new number are to be issued only TIN number.
5- There is no difference between TIN number,CST & VAT number. Dealers can use only one TIN Number in either state sales( VAT Sales) or inter state sales(CST sales). To mention TIN number is necessary in all the sales as well purchased transaction for the dealers.
6- There is a table of the first 2 characters of every state in which the TIN number starts with. For example Haryana Tin Number starts with 06.
